Hard Shackles

Hard Shackles

When shopping for a screw pin bow shackle, there are many factors to consider!  Rated strength is one.  Applied safety factors can vary, with common safety factors ranging from 4:1 (for many steel shackles) to 6:1 (for some alloy-based models like the Van Beast Green Pin Shackle).  Many obscure brands found exclusively on the internet don't even list a safety factor.  Strength of the shackle attachment point should also be considered in any proper sizing discussion.  Another consideration is the kind of gear you will be attaching to your shackle... sometimes a larger shackle may be warranted in order to secure a better bend radius when attaching something wider like the eye of a strap.  And of course be sure to buy from a brand that has a good track record of quality control.  When in doubt, ask an I4WDTA-Certified Trainer!
